How Would You Know?

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.”  Psalm 119:105

Below you will find a series of questions, with corresponding scripture(s) to each question. For a few moments, consider that Jesus is asking you each of these questions in a personal and intimate way. It’s just you and Jesus, seated together in a room. Through these questions, He desires to show you from God’s Word, that He can be trusted to guide, direct, and give you peace as you encounter struggles, trials, or circumstances that may seem insurmountable. 

1. If you never felt pain, how would you know that I am a Healer? 

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” Psalm 147:3

“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away."  Revelation 21:4  

         

2.  If you never prayed, how would you know that I am a Deliverer?

“I call on you, O God, for you will answer me; give ear to me and hear my prayer.”  Psalm 17:6

“If my people who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”  2 Chronicles 7:14

3.  If you never had a trial, how could you call yourself an overcomer?      

“Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him.”  James 1:12

“The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”  Psalm 18:2

4. If you never felt sadness, how would you know that I am a Comforter?

“The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”  Psalm 34:18

“For the LORD comforts His people and will have compassion on His afflicted ones.” Isaiah 49:13b

5. If you never made a mistake, how would you know that I am a Forgiver?

“In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace.”  Ephesians 1:7

“As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.”  Psalm 103:12

6. If you did not call on me, how would you know that I will answer your questions?

“Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.”  Jeremiah 33:3

"How gracious he will be when you cry for help! As soon as he hears, he will answer you."  Isaiah 30:19b

7. If you never were in trouble, how would you know that I will come to your rescue?

 “The LORD is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him.”  Nahum 1:7

“He trusts in the LORD; let the LORD rescue him. Let Him deliver him, since he delights in Him.”  Psalm 22:8

8. If you were never broken, then how would you know that I can make you whole?

“And the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory, after you have suffered a little while, will Himself restore you and make you strong, firm, and steadfast.”  I Peter 5:10

"The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed.”  Luke 4:18

9. If you never had problems, how would you know that I can solve them?

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace.   In this world you will have trouble.  But, take heart!  I have overcome the world.”  John 16:33

“Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.”  Psalm 51:12

10.  If you never had any suffering, then how would you know what I went through? 

“For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows.”  2 Corinthians 1:5

“But He was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him, and by His wounds we are healed.  We all like sheep have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way, and the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.”  Isaiah 53:5-6

11. If you never went through the fire, then how would you become pure?

“But He knows the way I take; when He has tested me, I will come forth as gold.”  Job 23:10

“Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”  Psalm 51:10

12.  If I never corrected you, how would you know that I love you?

“My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline, and do not lose heart when He rebukes you, because the Lord disciplines those He loves.”   Hebrews 12:6

13. If you had all power, then how would you learn to depend on Me?

“I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in His word I put my hope.”  Psalm 130:5

“To this end I labor, struggling with all his energy, which so powerfully works in me.”  Colossians 1:29

14. If your life were perfect, then why would you need Me? 

“Yet I am poor and needy; come quickly to me, O God. You are my help and my deliverer; O LORD, do not delay.”  Psalm 70:5

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”  Matthew 11:28            

Through our daily life experiences, we will be confronted with the choice to respond to these same questions.  Will we fail to take God’s Word seriously? Will we dismiss God’s Word as a mere history book with no real meaning for our lives? Or, will we remember these and other verses of scripture that assure us we are able to move forward in complete trust and faith in the promises found in God’s Word?  Will we seek God’s guidance for our lives?   I pray that each of us will choose wisely.

If there are questions about God or His Word still lingering in your mind that you do not understand, I urge you to take the time to search the scriptures, to pray, and to ask God to reveal the wisdom to understand and trust Him.  You may also wish to seek the counsel of a Godly pastor or another Bible-believing Christian.  God’s Word is full of countless promises for the believer and for those who seek to find Him.  He has never failed to keep His promises, nor will He ever.

“Seek the LORD while He may be found; call on Him while He is near.” Isaiah 55:6

Prayer:  Father, God, Your Word is truly a lamp to our feet and a light for our path.  No matter where we go—what circumstance(s) we face, You are already there.  We thank You for each promise given in Your Word, knowing that You had us in mind long before we knew You!  Help us to look to Your solutions and not to our own.   Give us wisdom to know how deeply Your love reaches into our hearts.  Help us to trust You in all things.  We pray these things in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.   Amen.
